“Reducing Negative Judgments of Contextual Racial Presentation” Harleen Dhanda

May 15, 2025

As a UC LEADS Scholar, Harleen has had the opportunity to work with Dr. Elizabeth Quinn-Jensen on a project exploring Judgments of Contextual Racial Presentation (CRP). Biracial individuals often shift their racial identification based on context—a practice that tends to be judged negatively by U.S. adults. However, previous research from their lab found that individuals who view racial identity as context-dependent (protean) are less likely to judge CRP negatively. Harleen’s URCA poster focused on their latest study, which tested whether priming participants with the protean concept could reduce negative judgments of CRP.
