Mikah Nelson presents in Undergraduate URCA Poster Presentations
"I was honored to work with graduate student Elizabeth Quinn-Jensen on her project concerning judgments of Contextual Racial Presentation, or CRP. While prior studies investigated found adults judge CRP negatively, we wanted to understand how children were making these judgments and additionally, how they conceptualize a biracial identity. We found that with increasing age, children’s judgments of CRP mirror adult cognition, where they also make negative evaluations of someone who engages in CRP. I really enjoyed the opportunity URCA and the SCD lab have given me! I have never designed my own poster, and it was amazing to hear about multiple disciplines across UCSB’s research in the poster colloquium. I absolutely love the scientific communication aspect of research and hope others will continue to participate in URCA events." -- Mikah Nelson
