Rodney Tompkins presents talk at Society for Research in Child Development conference
Rodney presented a talk titled "Early developing expectations of intergroup empathy bias" at the biennial meeting of the Society for Research in Child Development (SRCD).
"Through our collaborative work with Katie Vasquez (University of Chicago), Emily Gerdin (Yale University), Dr. Yarrow Dunham (Yale University), and Dr. Zoe Liberman, we find that by the preschool years, humans have third-party expectations about empathy between groups. That is, people expect others to feel better about ingroup than outgroup fortunes, and worse about ingroup than outgroup misfortunes. These empathy bias expectations are stronger when groups dislike one another, and weaker when groups like one another."
Cheers, Rodney!
